Finally - Arriving at the Alexander Nevsky Memorial Cathedral Church

I didn’t expect to be away so long. Some things happen some things you plan.

But unfortunately, what happened to me was that this time, I even managed to delete the database of my blog, and so you’ll see some changes as I’ve had to had to put it together again.

And at the same time, I found myself with a tooth infection that has kept me at the dentists.

I know there are some people who have blog posts written ahead for weeks and months maybe but so far I haven’t managed such a thing as I like to take things day by day.

So let’s get on on at last.

This is the time to finish the walk from my apartment to Alexander Nevsky.

So just a little way past the University and the National Library, here we are at the Alexander Nevsky Memorial Cathedral Church

This view shows the full magnificence of its green and gold decoration with its great gilded dome.

I think you know from other posts that the cathedral was built between 1904-1912 by a team of architects headed by the Russian Alexander Pomerantsev. This was all in remembrance of the Russian victory in the war against the Turks in 1878 which finally destroyed the Ottoman Empire’s power.

So here we are and from here we’ll able to walk around to see the other famous buildings which are mostly on what is known here as the Yellow Road which is made of yellow tiles and passes by the Royal Palace and other famous buildings that we’ll look at later.

By the way, just outside my block, if you’re interested, the morello cherries are now ripening fast.

I suspect that very soon after they ripen fully they’ll be taken away very quickly to be made into jam.

It’s been suggested to me that I could have a look more at what you might call everyday living.

And so I’m planning to look next, at the Sofia transport system.

Until next time …..
