Getting Around in Sofia - Eco Buses

Natural Gas Powered Bus in Sofia, Bulgaria
Rising energy prices have hit Bulgaria hard. With few natural energy resources, Bulgaria has turned largely to its old ally, Russia, for cooperation.
Russia and Bulgaria have signed up for the controversial South Stream Pipeline running 900-kilometres (550-miles) under the Black Sea from Russia to Bulgaria.
Bulgaria has also looked to Russia to upgrade its Nuclear facilities.
None of this means a trouble free future and increasingly alternatives are coming on the market. At the moment there are few of these buses on the streets of Sofia, But who knows what the future will bring.
The Number 9 bus follows a circular route including one of Sofia’s most famous landmarks, Eagles Bridge famous as a meeting place with its pillars topped by eagles:

Apart from the distinctive bulge, the legend on the bus is quite clear:

100% Natural Gas
I think it’s fair to say that after a period of indifference, many Bulgarians have decided that there are sound economic reasons for looking for alternative energy resources.
